However, the less reassuring part is that the budget envelope appears to be getting dangerously close to being exhausted. Anyone still planning to apply should not wait much longer. One of the program’s main advantages is that it can support not only the purchase of a single vehicle, but also provide meaningful funding for more substantial fleet electrification.
Depending on battery capacity, the subsidy amounts to HUF 2.8–4 million per vehicle, and a company may apply for support for 1 to 16 vehicles depending on its headcount, meaning that the total available grant can be as high as HUF 64 million. Under the amended call, the total budget of the program is HUF 45 billion, and applications may be submitted until 10:00 a.m. on 15 April 2026.
The popularity of the program is clearly reflected in the latest figures: according to the current statistics, 11,309 applications have been submitted for a total value of HUF 49.42 billion, while decisions have already been made on 9,324 grants, amounting to HUF 40.45 billion in total. The number of projects that have already received disbursement stands at 6,908, representing more than HUF 29.68 billion.
And this is where it gets particularly interesting: if we calculate on the basis of the increased HUF 45 billion budget, then roughly HUF 4.55 billion may still remain available based on the grants already awarded, while approximately HUF 15.31 billion has not yet actually been disbursed based on the payment figures. In other words, the call is still open, but it is clearly entering its final stage.
In practice, this means that anyone still considering applying should not delay much longer. Although the opportunity is still officially open, the volume of submitted applications shows that interest in the program remains strong, while the room for maneuver is visibly narrowing. So the electric vehicle subsidy scheme is still available, but this is no longer the time for calm, long-term planning; rather, we are now in the period of the last good opportunities.
