According to NFFKÜ, a total of 39 applications were submitted, requesting more than HUF 60 billion in funding – one and a half times the available HUF 40 billion budget.
The good news for projects still in preparation is that the second submission window is now open. According to the official announcement, the second round runs from 28 November 2025, 10:00 until 29 December 2025.
The final, third submission deadline set in the original call remains 30 January 2026, 16:00.
Quick reminder: what is this call about?
As we explained in detail in our earlier article, the aim of the scheme is to build and develop biogas and biomethane capacities, from the feedstock supply chain all the way to end-use of the final product. The total budget of the programme is HUF 40 billion, of which HUF 18 billion is earmarked specifically for small-scale plants (below 500 m³/h).
Available grant amounts
- Small-scale plants (below 500 m³/h): HUF 100 million – 800 million
- Larger plants (above 500 m³/h): HUF 200 million – 5 billion
Aid intensity (investment aid):
- Micro and small enterprises: 65%
- Medium-sized enterprises: 55%
- Large enterprises: 45%
Who can apply?
- Companies with at least one closed financial year
- Single applicants or consortia of up to 5 members
- Companies with a registered office / branch office in Hungary and a Hungarian tax number
The usual exclusion criteria (e.g. tax arrears, undertakings in difficulty, pending recovery orders, etc.) apply here as well.
What can be financed?
The call supports the full value chain of biogas/biomethane projects, including in particular:
- Feedstock and end-product logistics and storage: on-site vehicles and machinery (T/C/R categories); feedstock and digestate storage facilities; feeding and discharging systems and related equipment.
- Pre-treatment: feedstock reception, covered/enclosed pre-treatment facilities; shredding/cutting; sorting and depackaging; hygienisation/sterilisation.
- Anaerobic conversion: fermenters, biogas technology, gas collection and storage, pre-mixing/mixing tanks.
- Utilisation: equipment for heat and/or electricity generation from biogas; on-site heat and gas distribution; processing of by-products (agricultural use, sewage sludge).
Related, non-standalone cost items – such as project preparation, permitting, project management, publicity measures, IT systems – can also be included in the project budget, within the detailed limits set out in the call.
