The call for proposals announced in June 2025 aims to boost the development of enterprises’ own energy storage and renewable energy generation capacities.

The call for proposals “Support for renewable-based energy production and energy storage for enterprises” (2025/MA/TAROLO/01) has been published, so investments in PV plants and energy storage systems can now be planned based on the concrete conditions. Let’s look at the most important, up-to-date details.

When can applications be submitted?

The call will be open for electronic submission from 12 January 2026, 10:00 until 15 February 2026, 16:00 via the online platform of NEÜ Zrt.

  • Applications can only be submitted electronically, using Ügyfélkapu+ / Digital Citizen identification.
  • One applicant = one application = one project implementation site.
  • Projects must be implemented by 31 December 2028; costs can be claimed up to this date.

This is not a “drop everything and rush right now” type of call, but anyone thinking seriously about an energy storage project should already be working with concrete plans.

How much funding are we talking about?

The total budget of the call is HUF 50 billion, of which HUF 25 billion is earmarked specifically for SMEs. The expected number of winning projects is around 2,500–2,600.

Per project:

  • Minimum grant amount: HUF 10 million
  • Maximum grant amount: HUF 1 billion

Aid intensity:

  • micro and small enterprises: 50%
  • medium-sized enterprises: 40%
  • large enterprises: 30%

The remaining share must be covered from own resources.

Who can apply?

In short: almost any “normal” company operating in Hungary whose financial/legal situation is not problematic.

Formally, applicants must be:

an enterprise with registered office in Hungary, or
an enterprise with registered office in the EEA and a Hungarian branch with a Hungarian tax number,
holding a NAV “zero” tax certificate,
micro, small, medium-sized and large enterprises alike,
with at least one full closed (365-day) financial year.

What exactly can you apply for?

The scope of support rests on two main pillars:

1. Energy storage (eligible as a stand-alone activity)

  • Procurement of equipment suitable for storing electricity or heat.

2. Activities not eligible on their own (only eligible together with energy storage)

  • Installation of PV plants, wind turbines, heat pump systems for own use.
  • Hardware, software, control systems.
  • Related construction, engineering and project management activities.

Technical requirements and obligations

Systems participating in the scheme must comply with EU sustainability and greenhouse gas (GHG) emission savings criteria. Other important conditions include:

  • At least 75% of the energy stored annually must come from renewable sources.
  • The storage capacity must reach at least 20% of the combined peak capacity of the related generation system.
  • The deadline for physical completion of the project is 31 December 2028.
  • During operation, the submission of annual reports and indicators is mandatory.

And what about the paperwork?

You should prepare for the “usual” large-investment grant documentation package:

  • Feasibility study, including energy and economic calculations
  • Technical-Economic Information Sheet / grid connection request / grid connection contract
  • Occupancy permit (or proof of exemption from the obligation)
  • Design documentation, permits, declarations
  • Separate declarations on transparency, conflict of interest, own contribution, etc.
