This is more than just another grant – it could completely transform fish processing in Hungary. The latest call for proposals from the Hungarian Fisheries Operational Programme Plus, opening soon, has the potential to radically reshape the fish processing sector. Up to HUF 400 million in non-refundable funding, green technologies, digital solutions, and developments supporting direct sales could all be within your company’s reach – if you act in time.
Who can apply?
The call primarily targets micro, small and medium-sized enterprises, primary producers, family farms, cooperatives, sole proprietors, and state- or privately-owned business entities that:
- operate an existing fish processing plant, or
- are newly established businesses with TEÁOR 1020 (processing and preserving of fish, crustaceans and molluscs) as their main activity,
- and meet the TIR registration and revenue requirements.
Important note: Applications cannot be submitted in consortium form.
What can you apply for?
This is not a conventional investment grant – it supports developments that can genuinely transform the market:
- Fish processing plant development: purchasing new machinery and equipment, increasing capacity, modernization.
- Reducing environmental impact: energy-efficient technologies, waste management solutions.
- Improving working conditions: establishing social and office buildings, improving hygiene standards.
- Innovation and digitalization: introducing new products, business models, integrated enterprise management systems.
- Use of renewable energy sources: solar panels, heat pumps, wind energy.
- Developments supporting direct sales: setting up fish shops or street food points.
Funding details
- Grant amount: minimum HUF 5 million, maximum HUF 400 million.
- Intensity: up to 50%.
- Own contribution: at least 50% is required.
- Advance payment: up to 25% can be requested.
- Project duration: up to 24 months.
Not just growth – but setting an example
As a horizontal requirement, the project must include environmental and equal opportunity commitments. These can include energy-efficient buildings, selective waste collection, equal opportunity training, or even the development of an accessible website. Real competitive advantage begins where development is paired with social and environmental impact.
When to start preparing?
Although the submission period opens only on July 25, 2025, due to the scope of documentation and the technical and legal compliance requirements, it is highly recommended to begin planning as soon as possible. This is especially crucial for construction-related investments, which require permits, architectural plans, and detailed budgets.
